Attractions for Children in London

Whether your kids are obsessed with sports, arts, music, gadgets, video games or sweets – they will definitely find themselves happy while on a holiday in London as there is everything they need. Make sure you pick up a central London hotel to stay at; otherwise the kids will loose interest after travelling long distances.

Children in London often enjoy the outdoor experience. London boasts many beautiful parks that are perfect for families: children can run, play or sleep in the vibrant and spacious London parks. London Zoo, in Regent’s Park, will leave your children overwhelmed and will give an insight into the wonderful life of animals and nature. London Aquarium and IMAX 3D Cinema at the London Science Museum will be equally liked.

Sport obsessed boys and girls might be interested in the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum or a football matches at the Arsenal Stadium. They will also be pleased to hit the sports shops - Oxford Street nearby to Paddington area has them all – Nike, Adidas or J D Sports and your wallets will start shrinking immediately.

Artsy kids will enjoy the galleries and museums. Tate Modern is a perfect place to take them – it is spacious and children can join the group and attend the drawing class. They might also enjoy the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery – no point to tell them who painted what – let them take their personal look at the gallery.

Those kids who at the age of three already claimed they’ll be pilots once they grow up will enjoy the RAF Museum that has an extensive collection of aircraft from around the world. Gadget and technology lovers will enjoy it as well.

There are many children-friendly restaurants in central London. La Porchetta in Stroud Green and Upper Street boast to be the London’s most family friendly restaurant. Chains Fish and Giraffe are awarded for giving special regards to children.

Have fun at some of the great attractions for children in London which will make your kids look forward to another holiday in London next year.

  1. Ian B Said,

The Natural History Museum is great.
    All kids love it.

And I'm pretty sure the Science Museum next door is free too.
And all kids love that as well.

Neither of these are small days out though, so expect to be on your feet. LOL

Most of the museums in London are free and they are always great (http://www.londontourist.org/museums.html). Check out the science museums, they're often interesting and most museums soetimes have specific times where there are activities planned for children.

Even if you can't enter some of the places, you can still take your kids around to see the Tower of London, London Bridge, Big Ben, Eye of London and Buckingham Palace as well as the number of nice parks. (Remember to get a family travel card - since its a lot cheaper getting around to these sites)

You can also visit this website for free things for kids such as story-telling times, city farms etc.: http://www.londonfreelist.com/listings.asp?cat=kids,Kids for things that are free in London, which lists special things happening by dates as well as general free things.

I'm 21 years old and the Natural History Museum still blows my mind. So cool. Just across the street in the V&A (Victoria and Albert) Museum is what's called the cast rooms. They're stuffed full (quite literally) of plaster casts of famous statues, pieces of architecture, etc. and are fun to wander around in.

If they like Peter Pan, you can always go see the Peter Pan statue in Kensington Gardens. And if they're into Harry Potter, go see Platform 9 3/4 at King's Cross Station. There's a luggage trolley half buried in the wall to take your picture with. It's not where the movie was filmed, but it's still fun to see.

The London Eye… one of the biggest ferris wheels in the world and its so amazing to look over the whole city… the view is amazing and its so worth the wait in the fast moving line… (I am scared to death of ferris wheels but I loved it)
also the west end going to a show is so amazing.. every seat is close to the stage and its just so worth going… take a day trip out to windsor castle and poke around there for a while… there is this little church with a little old man (who was educated on the history by one of the queens) that sat and talked with us for a really long time while we were there about the history of the castle and he walked us around town showing us things that we would not have seen otherwise… the people in that country are very friendly and love thier history so just ask and you never know you might get a free tour…
